12 Things I Learned in the First Two Trimesters of Pregnancy
We are officially in the third trimester and I cannot wait to meet our girl. It seems strange to think in a few months she will be in my arms. As a first time mama, I have learned a lot of things in my first two trimesters of pregnancy. If you are a new mama or are just curious, here are 12 Things I Learned in the First Two Trimesters of Pregnancy.
1. I Chose to Cherish the Sweetness in Spite of the Season.
So far, or sweet baby girl is healthy and growing. There are about a hundred things to be worried about in this season of pandemonium, but I am thankful for our girl and being healthy.
2. I Accepted The Baby Hates Chocolate.
If you’ve known me long you know I absolutely love chocolate. I could eat it every day. Baby girl on the other hand? She does not. So I’ve had to take a little break from my sweet tooth, because who wants to be force-fed something they hate?
3. I Said Goodbye to Sleep.
People are always warning me to enjoy sleep now, because good sleep will end when the baby arrives. Well, I found that good sleep ends when you are pregnant. Maybe not for everyone, but definitely for me.
4. I Learned to Give Myself Grace
Before pregnancy I was capable of so much more. It’s disappointing to hit a wall both mentally and physically at 2:00pm and know I will not be as productive the rest of the day. But the fatigue is for a purpose, and my body is doing a lot. I have learned in these first two trimesters to give myself a little grace.
5. I’m Open to Listen to All Advice.
I am open and receptive to any and all advice given to me from other mamas. This is my first baby, so I am definitely no expert. Bring on the words of wisdom!
6. I’m Sifting Through Any Advice Given.
Just because I am given advice does not mean I have to follow it. Everyone parents differently, so it’s important to sift through advice that might not be your style. Make sense?
7. I Learned to Nap.
Surprisingly, I am not a napper. I find napping to be a waste of time. However, pregnant tired is a whole new ball game, as I mentioned before. Sometimes I have to accept my body needs the rest even when my mind does not. Basically, my first two trimesters have been a nap-fest.
8. I Am Fervently Praying for Our Girl
At the beginning of my pregnancy I bought a prayer journal from Write to Me. Each week has scripture and prayer prompts for your baby. Writing prayers to our little girl is one of my favorite parts of the week. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for her!
9. I’m Preparing, but Ready for Anything
As much as I love to prepare, I know that delivery and motherhood are something you just won’t be entirely prepared for. I’m doing my best to read and organize and pray before the big day. However, I am reminding myself daily that my plans and preparations might not help in the slightest. Either way, I did my best, right?
10. I’m Drawing Closer to the Lord
If I have learned anything in my 28 years on this good earth it is that I am not enough without God. The same is true of this season. On my own I am 100% incapable of making it through the day let alone through the next trimester, but God is good and He is with me. These first two trimesters have taught me to draw closer to Him.
11. I’m Thankful for My Husband
Still not sure how in the world I was blessed enough to marry Colton. He has been so wonderful these past couple months. He’s learning with me and so patient when I am in a bad mood. Truly, I am learning to be thankful for every little thing he does for our family. I love that man!
12. I’m Leaning on My Core Few
Did I mention I have no energy? Well, in times of need and worry I am learning to lean on the core few friends and family. I’m also learning not to feel guilty for focusing on those few. I can’t please everyone or be everywhere and that is perfectly okay.
