15 of My Favorite Board Books for Toddlers
In my preparations for baby I’ve been compiling a list of books I want to put in her library. I was an avid reader as a child and looking through all the classic children’s books put me in a nostalgic mood. Below are 15 of My Favorite Board Books for Toddlers. 1. The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
The Very Hungry Caterpillar is the most classic of classic books for children. It makes an excellent board book for babies and toddlers, as it is a highly interactive read. You can even use this book to teach your kiddo about how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly.
2. Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr and Eric Carle
Another classic children’s book, Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? makes an excellent board book for your toddler. The illustrations alone are worth the purchase.
3. Corduroy by Don Freeman
I grew up with a teddy bear of my own, and this story brings back so many fond memories. If your toddler loves stuffed animals, I encourage you to buy this board book. It’s also a beautiful example of what we would do for the people we love.
4. Dr. Seuss’s ABC by Dr Seuss
Can’t go wrong with Dr. Seuss, can you? It’s colorful an catchy and the perfect addition for any child’s library.
5. We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen
Again, my fondness of bears gave me a deep appreciation for Going on a Bear Hunt. It’s the perfect book for families, and if your child has an active imagination they will want to recreate the bear hunt on the first read.
6. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett
What would happen if spaghetti and meatballs began falling from the sky? Find out in Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. There is also a delightfully pun-filled movie of the same title you can watch after you read.
7. Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dowdney
Llama Llama is one of my new favorite board books for toddlers. It’s so catchy and funny and well written. If you get tired of reading the same books over and over, this board book is for you. I never get tired of reading it!
8. Press Here by Herve Tullet
If you have an imaginative toddler, or would like to encourage imagination, Press Here is an excellent book. Such a simple book that can create such big thoughts.
9. ABC’s of Space by Chris Ferrie and Julia Kregenow
Speaking of big thoughts, ABC’s of Space (and other in its series) are highly underrated. Why not get ahead of the learning curve and teach your toddler all about the stars?
10. Sheep in a Jeep by Nancy E. Shaw and Margot Apple
There are sheep in a jeep, what could be better?
11. I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More by Karen Beaumont
Oh man, if your child is prone to be mischievous then this is the perfect book for them. I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More is a book about a little boy who cannot stop getting himself into trouble. I know a couple little toddlers like that. Do you?
12. I Like Myself by Karen Beaumont
Another superb book by Karen Beaumont, I Like Myself is an important book for children of all ages. It’s a celebration of what makes each of us unique. Every child needs to be encouraged to be exactly who they are and who God made them to be.
13. Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle
The Little Blue Truck is a favorite of my nephew’s. If your kiddo(s) love all things construction, then this is the perfect board book for their library.
14. Where’s Spot? by Eric Hill
This board book is particularly fun, because it has flaps to lift and help you ind spot. If you are looking for an interactive book for your toddler, this is an excellent choice.
15. The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister and J Alison James
The Rainbow fish is a good book for kiddos who are learning to share. No matter how much we have, we can always learn to share.
