How to Add Hygge to Your Cleaning Routine
Organizing is one of my favorite activities of all time, but you might not feel the same way. I have several friends who hate to clean and organize. So, if you are someone who struggles getting chores completed, this post is for you. Read below to discover How to Add Hygge to Your Cleaning Routine.
What do I mean by adding hygge? Hygge is a Danish word that encompasses a feeling of coziness, contentment and well-being by enjoying the simple things in life. It’s not a word you would typically associate with chores, but I promise there is a way to actually enjoy your cleaning routine. Read below to discover more!
1. Choose Your Cleaning Products Wisely
When choosing cleaning products, look for organic, natural, non-toxic brands. Eco-friendly products such as these are not only better for the environment, but for the health of your family. they contain fewer allergens and are much more gentle on sensitive skin. 2. Select the Right Scent
I don’t know about you, but the smell of Clorox gives me a headache. When you are choosing your cleaning products wisely, it’s also important to consider the scent of the products you choose. My personal favorites are lemon or lavender. Choose a scent that is relaxing to you and not overwhelming for your family or guests.
3. Maximize Your Cleaning Routine With Podcasts or Music
Cleaning is typically mindless work, so utilize the time you spend doing the dishes or organizing your closet. Choose an episode of your favorite podcast. Listen to a book on Audible, a sermon, or play calming music. This is an especially good practice if you are someone with limited time during the day. Every second counts, so even if you are only able to listen to ten minutes of a sermon or podcast it’s better than muttering to yourself for those same ten minutes while folding laundry. You could even call a friend and catch up while you clean. That’s an excellent use of time.
4. Remember to Count Your Blessings
Another way to bring hygge to your cleaning routine is remembering to count your blessings. Are you able to mop your floors without pain? Do you have a home to keep clean? Then you are blessed! Rather than focusing on how taxing a chore can be, choose to be thankful that you have a home to clean and a healthy body to clean it with.
5. Take Before and After Pictures
Is there anything better than organization before and after pictures? I could look at them for hours. If you find joy in the results of a clean room, then take before and after pictures to look at once the work is complete. Photos like this can be so rewarding. They are also soothing to look at on days when your house is in total chaos. Like, “Wow, at one point our living room was so beautiful…”
6. Reward Your Hard Work
Speaking of rewards, if you are someone who hates to clean then give yourself a reward when you are done with the chores. It might be a nice bath, a sweet treat, or even a hot cup of tea in your organized living room. Whatever you choose, it’s important to reward a hard days work. You deserve it! Especially if you cleaned the bathroom… my least favorite thing.
