1. Hygge Living, Because You Made Through 2020
Let’s all take a moment to thank the Lord for the end of 2020. So many things went wrong last year, and I don’t know about you, but I was ready for a fresh start. If 2020 taught me anything it was to appreciate the small things and to savor the time we have together. Life is so unpredictable. I don’t want to miss the little moments, because I’m too busy looking at the future. I want to be present. Besides, with all the stress of last year you deserve to relax.
2. Hygge Living will Help Your Health
Okay, I couldn’t help myself with the alliteration, but hygge living will truly help your overall health. According to the American Institute of Stress, “In 2018, a third of US-based respondents visited a doctor for something stress-related.” A stressful lifestyle can lead to all sorts of health issues, including headaches, anxiety, sleep problems, chest pain, restlessness, depression and so much more. Hygge living is all about being stress-free and filled with peace. If that’s not enough reason to make hygge a priority this year, I don’t know what is.
3. Hygge Living is Good for Relationships
Living hygge means being present in the moment. Humans are hard-wired to connect with others. We were built for community and relationship (namely a relationship with God). Studies show that distractions like smartphones lead to divided attention, which in turn can damage our relationships with others. Have you ever watched your partner or child crumble when you choose your phone over a conversation with them? I have, and it’s heartbreaking. Making hygge living a priority this year can help build stronger relationships and therefore improve your well being.
4. Hygge Living Can Boost Creativity
Did you know that silence can actually enhance your creativity? As artist Louise Bourgeois once said, “After the tremendous effort you put in here, solitude, even prolonged solitude, can only be of very great benefit. Your work may well be more arduous than it was in the studio, but it will also be more personal.” Living hygge, or more simply, means living with less distractions. Less distractions can lead to a boost in creativity. So, if you are looking to accomplish big goals this year, I encourage you to make hygge living a priority. You never know what you could accomplish!
5. Hygge Living Can Help the Environment
As I mentioned previously, hygge living means living more simple life, which typically means having fewer possessions and being mindful of future purchases. All of this together can help you reduce your carbon footprint. It will amaze you how much less waste you produce when you own less. When you choose to spend your time and money on experiences rather than stuff, you produce less garbage. Make sense? I hope so.
6. Hygge Living Could Help Your Finances
Speaking of owning less, making hygge living a priority this year may help you improve your finances. Hygge activities are usually low-maintenance activities like hiking or picnics. You don’t have to spend a dime when going on a hike! When you are mindful of how you are spending your time and money, you naturally spend less or at least spend with more intention. Who knows, prioritizing hygge living this year could help your finances. Why not give that a try?
7. Hygge Living Can Deepen Your Relationship with God
Perhaps the most important reason to make hygge living a priority this year is in order to build a deeper relationship with your Heavenly Father. When we live more intentionally, with less distractions and a more peaceful mindset, it makes it easier to hear God speak. Are you craving more intimacy with your Creator this year? More than anything do you want to hear Him speak and see Him move? Making hygge and holy spirit living a priority this year can help make that happen.
