Powerful Scriptures to Pray Over Your Mother Today
Mother’s Day is coming soon, and I thought in honor of that occasion I would compile a list of Powerful Scriptures to Pray Over Your Mother Today. Being a mother is the most challenging and wonderful thing I’ve ever walked through, and I know I could use all the prayers. Your mother, wife, sister or friend may feel the same way. Use these scriptures as a template to pray over them specifically this weekend.
1. “Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior… and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.” – Titus 2:3-5
Mothers are examples to other mothers, but more importantly to their children. Being a mother is a beautiful, incredible calling that should be taken seriously. Pray over the mothers in your life that they would not only take that calling seriously, but that God would equip them to represent Him well. Pray that they would lean on Him on the tough days and that He would speak through them.
2. “She is vigilant over the activities of her household; she doesn’t eat the food of laziness.” – Proverbs 31:27
Okay, if you are a mama you might have read that verse and felt a little indignant. The truth is I don’t know a single mama out here who is lazy. We moms know how to work no matter what the circumstance. In spite of this I still think it’s important to pray this scripture over yourself and other moms. Pray that she will stay vigilant even when she’s exhausted, but also that she will find moments of rest and learn how to balance the two. I am still figuring that out myself.
3. “Love is patient, love is kind, it isn’t jealous, it doesn’t brag, it isn’t arrogant, it isn’t rude, it doesn’t seek its own advantage, it isn’t irritable….” – 1 Corin. 13:4-7
There is more to this verse than what I put here, so please be sure to read it in it’s entirety. The love of our Lord is an incredible thing, and we are called to love others as Jesus loved us. That isn’t an easy calling. Far from it. Pray over the moms in your life that they will know the love of Jesus and radiate that love to those around them.
4. “I’m reminded of your authentic faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice. I’m sure that this faith is also inside you.” – 2 Timothy 1:5
I’ve thought a lot about legacy in the last few years. What do I want people to say about me after I’m gone? Pray over the mothers in your life, that they would be mindful of the legacy they are leaving. Praise God for the faith they have illustrated and that their faith would only grow stronger.
5. “…I prayed for this boy, and the Lord gave me what I asked from him. So now I give this boy back to the Lord. As long as he lives, he is given to the Lord…” – 1 Samuel 1:26-28
God loves my daughter more than I ever will, and that’s the truth. He loves Ronia more than I can fathom. I’ve been given this extraordinary opportunity and blessing of being her mother, but only God knows what her life has in store. I know as a young mama I often struggle with letting go and trusting the lives of my family into Gods hands. Pray over the mothers in your life that they will release the lives of their loved ones into the hands of our Father. Pray that God would give them peace.
6. “Jesus went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. His mother cherished every word in her heart.” – Luke 2:51
Sometimes as a mom I can get lost in the day to day and forget to soak in the beauty of the little moments. Like the feeling of Ronia’s hand in mine or the sparkle of her smile. Pray over the mothers in your life, that they would learn to enjoy the small blessings every day. Pray that they would find joy even in the monotonous tasks and learn to cherish the Word of God.
