12 New Ideas for How You Can Hygge in Summer
When I was a little girl, summer was my favorite season. Maybe it was the fact that there was no school or perhaps it was the heat. I’m not sure. What I do know is when I do more things I did as a child, my heart feels full. Things like chasing fireflies and roasting marshmallows and playing catch. Hygge things. Below are 12 New Ideas for How You Can Hygge in Summer. Listen to your inner child the next couple months and have some fun in the sun!
1. Prioritize Your Vacation
Taking a vacation is important. I know you are busy, and the idea of taking a vacation this summer is overwhelming, but I promise you it will be worth it. Give your mind and body a break, even for a couple days. Even if you don’t travel very far. Prioritize your vacation this summer.
2. Take a Walk on the Beach
Another great way to live hygge this summer is to take a long walk on the beach. That could be at the ocean or the lake. Just breathe in the fresh air and enjoy some peace and quiet. It’s good for the soul.
3. Dance in the Rain
Dancing in the rain is also good for the soul. Remember what I said before about letting out your inner child? Dancing in the rain is the perfect way to do so. Jump in some puddles and get completely soaked. Get the whole family involved and just play.
4. Make a Bonfire
Making a bonfire is an excellent way to hygge in the summer. Get some hot dogs and s’mores and gather your close friends and family around a roaring fire. You could even share stories or sing songs. Make it like camp as a kid.
5. Read in a Hammock
Laying in a hammock is a very hygge activity, especially in the summer. Our hammock was recently ruined by squirrels, so we had to buy a new one. I love laying in it and watching the clouds float across the blue Kansas sky. Reading in the hammock is so soothing, too.
6. Organize a Family Reunion
Is anyone else craving family time? We’ve been apart long enough. This summer I encourage you to organize a family reunion. Make it a pot luck, so the preparation is simple. Then invite your immediate family or even extended relatives to enjoy some good old fashioned quality time. I’m sure everyone has a lot to catch up on after a year of social distancing!
7. Go to a Small Town Festival
One of my favorite hygge activities the summer is attending Midsommer’s Fest in my hometown of Lindsborg, KS. If you haven’t had the privilege of attending a small town festival, you should add it to your bucket list for the summer. The food, the culture… it’s worth your time.
8. Chase Fireflies in Your Bare Feet
Another thing to add to your bucket list for the summer is chasing fireflies. Sure, you don’t need to let them slowly die in a jar like you may have when you were a kid, but you can still enjoy the magic of watching them fly. I grew up in middle of nowhere Kansas, so chasing bugs as the sun was setting is one of my favorite childhood memories.
9. Stargaze in the Backyard
Enjoy the night even more by stargazing in your backyard. If you live in the city you may need to go further than your own backyard. But star gazing is a great way to connect with nature and something bigger than yourself.
10. Watch the Sunrise With a Cup of Tea
While you are stargazing you might as well stay out all night and watch the sunrise. Maybe it’s a Kansas thing, but sunrises in the summer are gorgeous. Breathtaking. There’s something so comforting about the beginning of a new day.
11. Make a Summer Playlist
Do you have certain songs in your playlist that remind you of summer? Add all of those songs into the ultimate playlist and take a nice drive through the country.
12. Take a Bike Ride
The last of my 12 New Ideas for How You Can Hygge in Summer is to take a bike ride. As a child I spent many hours riding my bike in the summer. My sister and I used to bike to the pool and back with beach towels around our necks. Grant yourself a little nostalgia and take a bike ride this summer.
