15 Hygge Activities for the Autumn Season
The autumn season is almost upon us, and I could not be more excited. Fall is my favorite time of year with beautiful weather, delicious food, and lots of family time. If you love the fall as much as I do, then you can make the most out of your favorite time of year with these 15 Hygge Activities for the Autumn Season.

1. Create a Welcoming Entryway
Pull out the fall wreaths and hay bales. It’s time to decorate your front porch! Make your door and entryway welcoming to all the visitors you will receive in the coming months. Remember to sweep for cobwebs! That is… unless they are part of the aesthetic?
2. Go Apple Picking
I’ve never been apple picking, but I am excited to start a new tradition this year. It might even be fun to make a pie or applesauce as a family with your fresh apples.
3. Buy a Big Cozy Sweater
Is there anything more fall than a big, cozy sweater? My favorite sweater is from Shiloh Collection and is my go-to in cooler months. Find yourself that comfy fall sweater and wear it as much as you want!
4. Take a Hike
There’s nothing like hiking through the woods in the fall. With the cool breeze and changing leaves, it’s like heaven on earth. Take your time on an autumn hike. Notice the sparkle of the dew on spiderwebs and the sun beam through the leaves. Allow yourself to rest.
5. Savor a Hot Cup of Tea
Wake up early, just before sunrise. Pour yourself a nice cup of coffee or brew a pot of tea and enjoy a few minutes to yourself on the back porch. Watch the steam touch the cool morning air and use that quiet time to thank God for everything He provides.
6. Make a List
Speaking of things you are thankful for, why not make a list? Studies show that writing in a gratitude journal is good for your mental health. Humans are easily forgetful, so that the time this season to remember the good things.
7. Read a Physical Book
Pick one book, just one. Yup, an actual physical book. Then read that book from start to finish this fall. When is the last time you actually read an entire book? It only takes a few pages a day!
8. Attend a Fall Festival
With the current pandemic it may be hard to locate a fall festival that hasn’t been canceled, but if your area is safe then go have some fun. There’s something so cozy about a festival in the fall. You can also stock up on Christmas gifts from local vendors.
9. Go to the Farmer’s Market
Speaking of festivals, try your local farmer’s market! It’s like a mini fall festival every weekend with fresh product and homemade preserves. Going to the farmer’s market is an excellent way to support local business and get out of the house this fall.
10. Plant a Autumn/Winter Garden
You could also become a farmer yourself by planting autumn and winter vegetables at home. I am going to try spaghetti squash this fall, because I absolutely love squash. Research the best vegetable to plant in your region and go for it!
11. Burn a Fall-Scented Candle
One of my favorite parts of fall is burning candles. There’s just so many delicious flavors from cinnamon roll to fresh baked bread. Give the impression that you bake every day by burning a yummy fall candle this fall.
12. Build a Bonfire
If you have a big backyard then build a big bonfire this fall. Invite over some friends and make a night of by cooking s’mores. sitting by the fire is such a cozy, hygge activity. Definitely add this to your list in the fall.
13. Go Camping
Laying on the cold ground in the wilderness is not my thing, but maybe its yours! Camping can be lots of fun if you go with the right mindset and people. Fall is an excellent time for camping, because the weather is finally starting to cool. Stargazing is a very hygge activity to do while camping as well.
14. Carve a Pumpkin
My husband carved his first pumpkin a couple years ago and now it’s a favorite family tradition. Sure, the guts inside the pumpkin are gross but once you get past that part pumpkin carving can be a unique bucket list item for your family this fall.
15. Eat all the Pumpkin Things!
Do you love pumpkin bread, pie, and pastries? Then you will love the fall. It’s the perfect season to chow down on all things pumpkin flavored. Sure, you might hate pumpkin by the begining of the year, but it’s worth it.
