15 Sweet Summer Books to Read with Your Toddler
You know I can’t resist a summer book haul. We went a little over-board adding to our board book collection this month, so I might need to take a break for awhile. I’m just such a sucker for books. Anyway, below are 15 Sweet Summer Books to Read with Your Toddler. Each of these are Ronia-tested and approved, some more than others. I also included several dad-themed books in honor of Father’s Day.
We find many of our books on sale in various places, but I linked them all through Amazon below.

1. Sunny Day: A Celebration of the Sesame Street Theme Song by Joe Raposo
Sesame Street is so nostalgic for me. Sunny Day is a simple, but beautiful tribute to the show’s theme song. If you are looking for a good throw-back moment be sure to pick up this book.
2. Made for Me by Zack Bush
If you are looking for a Father’s Day gift from your baby to their daddy, then please get this book. It makes me teary-eyed every time we read it. There’s something so special about the bond between a baby and daddy.
3. Ocean Life by Jill McDonald
The ocean always makes me think of summer and sun. Ocean Life is a part of the Hello, World! series and is a great way to introduce your little one to sea creatures.
4. Thank you God for Daddy by Amy Parker
5. Llama Llama: Sand and Sun by Anna Dewdney
We can’t have a book haul without Llama Llama. I love this particular book, because it’s touch-and-feel! Ronia is very into touch-and-feel books lately.
6. Ocean Days with Crab by Little Hippo Books
Another example of a summer touch-and-feel book is the Ocean Days with Crab book. This is an easy read, but interactive and fun for toddlers.
7. A Midsummer’s Night Dream by Jennifer Adams
I’ve been trying to introduce Ronia to iconic literatures, and the BabyLit books are ideal. The words are a little advanced for her, but I think it’s important to read her the classics from time to time. She loves the illustrations.
8. You’re My Little Firecracker by Nicola Edwards
We love a good book with affirmations, so I always have to get the seasonal book from Nicola Edwards. You may have seen the others in this series in previous blog posts. They are some of Ronia’s favorites.
9. Daddy and Me by Karen Katz
I honestly have no idea who got us this book, but I think it’s so cute. Ronia is recently into the lift-and-flap books, so this is a good one for her. And it’s great for Father’s Day!
10. Mrs. Peanuckle’s Hiking Alphabet by Mrs. Peanuckle and Jessie Ford
Out of all the books in my list of 15 Sweet Summer Books to Read with Your Toddler, this book is my favorite. It’s not only educational, because you are learning the alphabet, but it teaches you so much about hiking and the outdoors. I feel like my description is not and will not do the book justice, so just please get it to discover how amazing it is.
11. The Berenstain Bears and Too Much Vacation by Stan and Jan Berenstain
I grew up with the Berenstain Bears books, so it seems right we introduce them to Ronia. We read this one the other night before bed and I was cracking up. If you’ve ever had a bad vacation, you know.
12. Little Critter: Just Fishing with Grandma by Mercer Meyer
For some reason when I think of fishing I think of summer. I love that in this book Little Critter doesn’t go fishing with his dad or grandpa, but with grandma. And they have a great time!
13. Dada by Jimmy Fallon
Another obvious Father’s Day is Dada by Jimmy Fallon. It’s simple, but a staple in our library.
14. Curious George Curious About Summer Tabbed Board Book
Okay, so I wanted to get Ronia a Curious George book, and I’m glad I did. However, this particular book is a little word-y so she can get board. I just paraphrase or skip around as needed. She will grow into it someday and the tabs make it easy for her to turn the pages.
15. I Love Dad by Eric Carle
Okay, last but not least for our summer books we have the I Love Dad book by Eric Carle. Ronia loves the Hungry Caterpillar, so I knew she would love pointing out the caterpillar on every page. And it’s so sweet to talk about how much we love daddy.
