5 Excellent Foods to Try in Kansas City
Before the arrival of Baby Gentry, Colton and I decided to take a short babymoon. Unfortunately due to COVID we were not able to go that far, but we chose to stay an hour down the road in Kansas City and eat all the foods. Is there anything better? Based on that trip, below are 5 Excellent Foods to Try in Kansas City (and one bonus must-have dessert).
Disclosure: This post was prepared prior to the arrival of Baby Gentry. Changes and additions will be made later if needed.
1. The Cordon Bleu from Denver Biscuit Company
The honest reaction to my first bite of food at the Denver Biscuit Company was two words: “Well, damn.” True story. My husband and I split our breakfast, but if I have the opportunity to go to this restaurant again then I will 100% be getting my own meal. We came for the bacon covered cinnamon roll and stayed for The Cordon Bleu. I mean, chicken… biscuit.. ham… homemade honey butter to the face. You cannot go wrong with this mouth-watering meal. Do yourself a favor and place the Denver Biscuit Company on your foodie bucket list today. The service was also excellent, which is something I always appreciate.
2. Brownie Fudge Milkshake from Creative Culture
When we stopped at Creative Culture I had no idea we were walking into one of the most innovative eateries in Kansas City. I thought we were just getting a milkshake, but Creative Culture is so much more than a artisanal sweet treat. It’s a DIY crafting studio with the most aesthetically pleasing design. If you are looking for a highly hygge activity for date night or for a large group, this is the place for you. My husband and I decided to paint a pumpkin while we enjoyed our shake and it was incredibly fun as well as relaxing. Honestly, I cannot say enough good things about this place. Go there and enjoy.
3. Mac & Cheese Burger from The Ainsworth
The Mac & Cheese burger at the Ainsworth is one of the best burgers I have ever had. Can you possibly go wrong with a burger absolutely dripping in hot mac & cheese? I don’t think so. Even the fries were delectable. However, what stole the show at the Ainsworth for me was the service. It was absolutely impeccable and guaranteed our return next time we are in the area. My husband was especially content watching the K-State football game on a TV screen tucked into our booth. If you love sports, good food, and wonderful service, then The Ainsworth bar and grill is the place for you.
4. Choice Pizza from Stone Canyon Pizza
I heard through the grapevine that Stone Canyon Pizza in Parkville was the best pizza in the Kansas City area with the best ranch, so we had to give it a try. The pizza was incredibly delicious. We ordered the Stone Canyon Choice pizza, which is the equivalent to a meat lover’s. The crust was crispy and soft at the same time and the cheese was yum. I will say it was not my favorite pizza of all time, but I tend to be a bit of a pizza snob. Stone Canyon is definitely worth the try if you are in the area, especially if you love a good slice of pizza.
5. Biscuits and Gravy from Mildred’s
If you love a good classic breakfast, then you need to try the biscuits and gravy with bacon at Mildred’s. The biscuits were soft in the middle and crunchy on the bottom, which made for an excellent texture. I wish I knew their gravy recipe, because it was luscious. I tend to make my gravy too thick, but this was just the right consistency and reminded me of a more rustic, homemade gravy from my childhood. Loved it. There is also plenty of room for social distancing in this restaurant with a sweet fireplace in the back for a coffee chat with friends. Highly recommend!
Bonus: Cookie Cake Slice from Nestle Toll House
Located in the Oak Park Mall, the Nestle Toll House Cafe is one of my personal favorite stops in Kansas City. I miss when the Great American Cookie company was in Kansas, but Nestle is a close second. I’m not sure if they were going for an abstract pumpkin look for this particular slice, but it was yummy no matter what. I love a good cookie, and Nestle never disappoints.
