1. The Mama Natural Week-by-Week Guide to Pregnancy and Childbirth by Genevieve Howland
The Mama Natural book is by far my favorite pregnancy book. It honestly felt as though I was reading a letter from a friend. Mama Natural not only includes helpful information, but recipes, affirmations, to-do lists and helpful diagrams. It’s so well put together and accessible, I looked forward to reading the newest chapter each week of my pregnancy.
2. What to Expect When You’re Expecting by Heidi Murkoff
Murkoff’s book is rated number one for a reason. What to Expect When You’re Expecting is full of useful information about pregnancy. It was my go-to for any random question or concern (apart from my doctor that is). If you are someone who likes information without any of the fluff, What to Expect is the perfect book for you. It also includes a section about postpartum, which I found extremely helpful.
3. Dear Baby by Duncan and Stone
Dear Baby is not a pregnancy education book, but it is an additional way to prepare for baby. This pregnancy prayer journal is an excellent keepsake for any parent. Each week of pregnancy has a page that describes baby’s development and short scripture prompt to help you in pray for baby throughout pregnancy. It’s so important to prepare not just your mind for pregnancy and delivery, but to prepare your heart and soul. The Dear Baby journal is an ideal way to do so.
4. Commando Dad: New Recruits: A Guide to Pregnancy and Birth for Dads-to-Be by Neil Sinclair
I bought this book for Colton when we found out we were expecting. At first he found it to be a little cheesy. I mean, the theme of the book is dad’s going through boot camp. However, the he learned a lot about pregnancy through this book and was even reminding me about things he had read when I was worried or had questions. By the time he was done he said it was helpful in spite of the cheesy-ness, so there you go!
5. Newborn Basics 101 + Birth It Up: The Natural Series Bundle by Liesel Teen
Okay, so this last one is technically not a book. It’s a birth education series by a labor and delivery nurse and mother, Liesel. However, out of everything I read, watched and listened to throughout my pregnancy, the Newborn Basics 101 course was by far the most helpful. Liesel has a way of explaining things that made me feel educated and calm. This course is especially helpful for new moms. Even if you take the newborn class through your local hospital, I would recommend taking Liesel’s class as well.
