5 Reasons to Wake Up Early in the Morning
Last month I shared my seven tips for establishing a morning routine. Then I realized, you might be wondering why should you get up early in the morning at all. If you are more of a night owl than an early riser, you likely have reservations about setting your alarm for 5:00am. The truth is, getting out of bed is never easy, but before you hit the snooze button be sure to read these 5 Reasons to Wake Up Early in the Morning.
1. You Have Time to Start Your Day Right.
The first benefit of waking up early in the morning is that you have time to start your day off on the right foot. For me that means reading in my Bible, journaling and spending time in prayer. It’s incredible the difference ten minutes in the Word can make. Sure, sleeping in might feel good at the time, but when I don’t have those 20 minutes alone with God in the morning then it’s likely a more difficult day. I’ve learned my lesson. Waking up early allows me to have that time I need to get my thoughts straight and my attitude right.
2. You Can Prepare Properly.
Waking up earlier in the morning gives you an opportunity to prepare your heart and mind for the day. If you are forgetful, have an overwhelming schedule or unpredictable kids, getting out of bed to look over your day could help put you at ease. Honestly, even if you are the most organized person in the world there is still benefits to waking up early to look over your calendar. Life is unpredictable and messy. Afternoon-you will thank morning-you for getting up sooner in order to prepare.
3. You Can Enjoy Your Breakfast.
How often do you find yourself snarfing a granola bar on your way to work, cruising through a drive-thru or forgetting breakfast all together? Start your day off right with a healthy breakfast you can actually enjoy. Plate your food and sit at the table to eat it. Wrap your hands around that warm coffee mug and savor every sip. Don’t stand over the sink gobbling a bowl of stale cereal. Enjoy your food! It’s not only healthier for your body, but is a much less stressful practice.
4. You Will Have More Free Time Later In The Day.
Waking up early in the morning is an excellent way to clear your evening schedule. It’s much easier to enjoy a night out with friends or dinner with the family when you checked the most important things off your list. Better yet? When you are prepared for the day and work ahead first thing, you have buffer time in the afternoon for a nap or long lunch. Leverage the time you save and use it wisely.
5. You Can Prioritize Your Health.
By waking up early you grant yourself extra time to exercise. Let’s face it, working out after a long day at work is never fun. I also have trouble exercising after eating, so the best time to get in a long walk or workout routine is first thing in the morning. Sure, exercising first thing does not sound appealing, but be honest with yourself. When will you actually get it done? If you have fitness goals you want to achieve, it may require a bit of sacrifice. It might be hard at first, but the results will be worth it.
