5 Simple and Hygge Date Night Ideas
My husband and I are homebodies. We enjoy travel, but there is nothing better than crawling into your own bed at the end of the day. Because we love home so much and we are in the middle of a pandemic, many of our date nights revolve around staying in. Date night doesn’t have to be extravagant to be special, and our most fond memories often come from the most average days. Below are our 5 Simple and Hygge Date Night Ideas.
1. Go on a Long Walk
It’s a simple idea, but budget-friendly and classic for a reason. We live near a lake, so on evenings when the weather is nice my husband and I like to go on a long walk to the water and watch the sunset. If you don’t live in a safe area for walking, take a short drive to a park or hiking trail and enjoy an evening together outdoors. You could share what you are currently learning or struggling with, your top five favorites or dreams for the new year. Or you could even walk in silence. The important thing is to enjoy each other’s company.
2. Try a New Recipe for Dinner
If you and your spouse enjoy cooking together, you could choose a new recipe to try for dinner. Or one of you can make dinner while the other makes dessert. Try a recipe that’s unique and complicated, because even if it turns out terribly, it will make an excellent memory. Then once your meal is ready, sit down at the table or patio to enjoy it together. No phone allowed! You could even go the extra mile and light a candle for some extra romance.
3. Pack a Picnic
Speaking of food, another simple and hygge date night idea would be to pack a picnic. You could hike a nearby trail or walk around the lake for a bit before laying out a big picnic blanket and enjoying a meal together. You could even be extra romantic and pack snacks to picnic under the stars. Remember, date nights don’t have to be complex. It’s all about spending time together doing whatever, wherever.
4. Go to the Zoo
If you’ve followed my blog for more than a month you know how much we love the zoo. I obviously had to include it in the list. Can you blame me? Put on your tennis shoes and take a nice long walk around the zoo nearest you. It’s a low-cost and fun way to spend time together while also getting some much-needed Vitamin D. Is anyone else getting tired of all this time indoors? Just me?
5. Watch a Documentary and Puzzle
Our final hygge date night idea is to watch a documentary while you work on a puzzle. For some strange reason it is a very soothing combination. Working on a puzzle leaves room for open communication while also giving you something to do. You could also play a podcast or just listen to music. Whatever you like best. However, one of my favorite documentaries of all time is the Biggest Little Farm. So if you haven’t seen this movie then I highly recommend playing it on your next date night.
