Motherhood,  Welcome

5 Things that Changed my Life as a SAHM

Being a stay-at-home mom has always been my biggest dream, and I’m so thankful I get the opportunity to be home with my daughter. But to be honest there are days when it it is a it overwhelming. If you are a mama at home who is also struggling through the highs and lows, I hope this blog post will be of help to you. Read below to learn the 5 Things that Changed my Life as a SAHM.

1. Finding a Quality Babysitter

The biggest of the 5 Things that Changed my Life as a SAHM is finding a quality babysitter. Every Monday our sitter comes over for a couple hours so that I can do chores, run errands, or do blog work. I can’t tell you what a difference those couple hours make for me. If you are a stay at home mama and are able to get a little help each week, please take the opportunity. Having time for yourself when you can reset is essential.

2. Rising Early

Something that I am working on is rising early. My daughter is usually awake by 7:00am or so, and if I wait to wake up when she does… the day never goes as smooth. I’m an introvert that needs a little time to prepare my heart and mind for the day. It might seem impossible to sacrifice the little bit of sleep you are currently getting, but I promise that rising earlier than your family will make a big difference.

3. End of Day Reset

Another thing that helps me prepare my heart and mind for the day is to reset the house at the end of the day. When I make sure the main living space and playroom are ready for tomorrow, we tend to have a more peaceful morning. Waking up to mess makes me stress, and I will not apologize for that amazing rhyme.

4. Utilizing TV Time

When I was a new mama I heard so much about how you shouldn’t let your child watch TV. Now, I don’t think a lot of consistent TV is good for young kids (or grown adults), but you can utilize your toddler’s favorite shows in a positive way. For example, around 4:00pm my daughter can get a little sassy, so we have started doing TV time with a snack at 4:00pm. That way I can work on dinner and she can chill.

Are there days when she watches more than 30 minutes of TV? Yes. Are there days when we don’t watch anything? Sure! Everything in moderation.

5. Going Out

I am an introvert that gave birth to quite a little extrovert. It’s not easy for me to get out of the house, because I like it here. I’m a homebody that naturally wants to curl on the couch with a blanket and a good book. However, I have noticed that my toddler does better if we get out of the house at least a little each day. We could go to the zoo, run and errand, or simply play in the backyard. Going out is the last of the 5 Things that Changed my Life as a SAHM.
