5 Things That Make is Easier to Host
Tis the time of year for constantly hosting or traveling to see family. November and December can be overwhelming, so be sure to read below and discover 5 Things That Make is Easier to Host. If you enjoy having people in your home, but find yourself falling apart with stress every year, this post is for you.
1. Make Food Ahead of Time
Freezing cookie dough and various other desserts long before Thanksgiving or Christmas is an excellent way to be more prepared to host. You can also stock up on simple snacks and ingredients you know you will need for traditional dishes. The earlier you can prepare food, the more you can enjoy time with people when they arrive at your home.
Or, better yet, delegate the food preparation to others!
2. Start with a Clean Kitchen
You will likely have a sink full of dishes before the day is through, so I recommend starting with a clean kitchen. It won’t be so difficult to clean up after family dinner if you started with a clean kitchen. I also recommend gathering a few people to help you tidy the kitchen again before everyone leaves. Hey, you hosted. They should leave the kitchen how they found it.
3. Troubleshoot Problems
What went wrong in years previous? Think through those issues and try to come up with a solution. Have food options for picky eaters or those with allergies. Better yet, ask if they want to bring something along to enjoy. Whatever you can do to alleviate your own stress, the better.
4. Prepare the Guest Rooms
If you have family members staying at your home, remember to prepare the guest rooms or spaces in which they will be staying. You can do this weeks in advance and just close the door to that room. I also like to keep some extra toiletries for guest who might forget them.
5. Spend Time in Prayer
Whether you are prone to anxiety or not, I highly recommend spending time in prayer prior to hosting this holiday season. Prepare your heart and mind to invite people into your home. You could even walk through your house and pray different scriptures along the way. Pray for the individuals attending your holiday gathering and as that everyone get along. Spending more time in prayer is never a bad idea.
Bonus:
Remember, things will likely go wrong at some point during the holidays. When you get a whole bunch of people in a small space who all think and feel differently…. well it can be a challenge.
