7 Hygge Details In My Home That Delight Me
A few weeks ago I was reading an article about the things in your home that bring joy, and it really got me thinking. What details in my home truly delight me? We currently live in a rental and every now and again I wish we had a nicer, bigger home that was all our own. However, the practice of listing what I love changed my perspective. Please enjoy these 7 Hygge Details In My Home That Delight Me.
This week I encourage you to come from a place of gratitude and think about all the things you love about your own home. We could all use a little more positivity these days, am I right?
1. A photo of my favorite day.
Meeting a dolphin for the first time is thus far the very best day of my life, and I was married just a day or two prior. Every time I look at this picture I feel the joy I felt that day in San Diego. No matter how bad my day might be I always feel better remembing the day I got to meet a dolphin.
2. The smell of fresh baked cookies.
I bake a lot. At least once a week my home smells like fresh baked cookies (much to my husbands delight). The key is to freeze balls of dough, so that you can bake what you need whenever you need it. Oh, and sea salt. Always top your cookies with sea salt.
3. A few tiny pianos.
My grandmother collected pianos, and after she passed I was given three of my favorites from her collection. Whenever I look at these tiny pianos I am reminded of so many sweet moments in my childhood, and I am reminded of my incredible grandmother.
4. Our Swedish Ivy plant.
We had wonderful neighbors surrounding our first home. One of them was quite the gardener and when he learned we were moving he gifted us a Swedish ivy plant. Now, I did not inherit the green thumb so many of my relatives possess, but for some reason my ivy plant is doing well.
5. Stacks and stacks of books.
There’s just something about the written word. I love to read and share what I’ve read with others. There’s shelves and stacks of books in almost every room in my home.
6. A china cabinet of CorningWare dishes.
My grandparents gave me a large collection of CorningWare dishes when I got married, but for several years I had nowhere to put them. Then I found a china cabinet on Craigslist for $150, and it fit our home perfectly. It’s so nice to have a place to display our dishes.
7. An incomplete nursery.
It’s not finished, but our nursery is looking better and better each week. I can’t wait for the day we get to bring our sweet baby girl home. I can’t wait to read her stories and sing her to sleep. We are so anxious to meet her it’s overwhelming. December could not come soon enough!
Honorable Mention: Our New Hygge Door Mat.
Have you ever seen anything more Chelsea than this door mat? I can’t believe Ikea is actually selling them right now. Our mantra is obvious from the first step through our front door. Love it!
