Bible Verses to Pray Over Your Baby While Pregnant
The week I found out I was pregnant I bought the Dear Baby pregnancy prayer journal from Duncan & Stone Paper Co. I wanted to saturate our little bean in as much prayer as possible, and I knew I needed accountability to do so. I also wanted to be able to show our child someday just how loved she is and how intently we prayed for her. Inspired by the Dear Baby journal, below are my favorite Bible Verses to Pray Over Your Baby While Pregnant.
It’s never to early to pray for baby. So whether you are currently pregnant, not yet expecting, or even if your kids are grown, you can use these scriptures. Oh, and don’t forget your free download below.
“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.”
– Jeremiah 1:5
In seven months of pregnancy (at the time I wrote this), I have learned many things about my baby. She is squirmy, hates chocolate, and loves citrus. She also prefers I wake up at 5:20am. However, as much as I think I know her now and will get to know her throughout her life, God knows my daughter better. He is forming her, developing her personality and setting her life’s plan into motion. Use Jeremiah 1:5 to pray that your child would know that God is an incredible artist that made he or she for a purpose.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”
-Ephesians 2:8
We live in a broken world, and someday my daughter will be faced with many temptations. She will have to grow in her own individual faith, learn who God is and how He sent Jesus to save her from her sins. It’s never to early to pray for the salvation of your child, and that he or she would truly know the love of Christ. That’s all I really want for her, to know Jesus.
“Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people.”
– Ephesians 6:7
Everything we do should be done not for others or for ourselves, but for God alone. Pray that your child will have a servant’s heart. And that they would love others well and use their hands and feet for God’s glory. Pray that they would not be pulled by the desire to please people, but to please their Heavenly Father. People-pleasing is such a nasty spiral to be caught in and an awful habit to break.
“Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.”
– 1 Peter 3:3-4
We are having a sweet little girl, and I can’t wait to dress her in all the cute clothes and discover what her style might be over time. However, I never want my daughter to think her value comes from her external beauty. Pray over your baby that he or she would know their true value is found in God. Use 1 Peter 3:3-4 to pray that your baby would know how precious they are in God’s sight. May they know beauty on the inside is one that does not fade.
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
-John 10:10
As much as I would like to protect my sweet baby and keep her from all harm, it is not possible. Someday she will experience pain and heartache. It’s all a part of living in a fallen world. Pray protection over your baby with John 10:10. Pray that God would watch over them even when you cannot and keep them safe from temptation. And that they may have a full life in Christ.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”
-Galatians 5:22-23
Personally, God has been developing a deep sense of peace and patience in my heart over this past year or so. I hope and pray that one day my daughter would also experience the same sense of peace that can only come from the Lord. Take the time to pray that your baby would be strong in each fruit of the Spirit. Pray over each fruit one by one, because each is just as important as the next. May they be so drenched in the fruits of the Spirit that others can see Christ at work in them.
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”
-John 15:12-13
Speaking of reflecting Christ, I pray that our daughter would not only know the love of Christ, but that she would show that love to others. This world has enough malice and hate. Pray that your child would love others well, be a good friend and choose to be kind. It’s so rare now to meet someone who is genuine and loving in the depths of their soul. Pray that your child would stand apart by mirroring the unconditional love of God to the world.
