Family Dinner Traditions You Need to Try
When I was growing up my family used to go to lunch every Friday. We also used to gather around the dinner table for birthdays, holidays and various other important events. Those family meals are some of my favorite memories. There’s just something about eating a meal together. Below are five Family Dinner Traditions You Need to Try. This month, make family dinner night a priority and you won’t regret it.
1. Say a Blessing
Before every dinner at my grandpa’s house we used to say the same blessing, Be Present at Our Table, Lord. Saying the same blessing before every meal is an excellent tradition to adopt. You could even create a blessing, which might e a fun activity, especially for younger kids.
2. Have a Theme
When planning your next family dinner, try choosing a unique theme. You could have Taco Tuesday, Breakfast for Dinner, Soupapalooza, French Picnic or even a Tea Party! Members of your family could dress up or bring activities that match the chosen theme for the night. The possibilities really are endless.
3. Name One Good Thing
Name one good thing is exactly what it sounds like. You make your way around the table and everyone says one good thing that happened to them that day, week, or month. Focusing on the blessings we receive is a beautiful tradition to add to any family meal. We all need a little more positivity, don’t you think?
4. Preparing or Cleaning Together
Cooking your family dinner together is a good bonding experience. Rather than everyone bringing parts of the meal over with them just before dinner, try asking everyone to come by a little earlier in the day. You can book together in the kitchen and spend more quality time catching up. Or, if the idea of all cooking in the kitchen at the same time gives you hives, you could try cleaning up together. That way the host isn’t left with a million dirty dishes.
5. Take a Family Nap
In my family it’s sort of a tradition to nap after a big meal. Everyone cuddles in the living room or even on a floor and we all chat until we start to drift off. Everyone is snoring and no one cares. It’s the best. Napping after a delicious dinner is one the most important Family Dinner Traditions You Need to Try.
