A Helpful Gift Guide for New Parents
It’s officially time to start worrying about what you will buy your friends and family for Christmas. If you have a friend or loved one who is a new parent this holiday season, then this post is for you. Colton and I will be bringing home our girl soon, so we collaborated to create a A Gift Guide for New Parents based on what we would like to receive. Happy shopping!
Disclosure: This blog post was prepared prior to Baby Gentry’s arrival.
1. Items from the Baby Registry
Are there any items left on the baby registry for you to purchase? That’s definitely a good choice for a new parents gifts. Remember, the new parents in your life might not have all those essentials. This is their first kiddo! Give the registry a glance and see if there is anything that was missed. Have they mentioned something that wasn’t on the registry that they realized they need? Go with that. Or, when in doubt, gift cards will always come in handy.
2. Frozen or Prepped Meals
As of the date I am writing this post, our baby girl is not yet home. But I’ve heard one of the most helpful tasks you can do prior to delivery is prepping food. It’s one less thing to think about. If you are looking for a gift for the new parents in your life, you can’t go wrong with food. Make them a freezer meal or perhaps give them a gift card for a food delivery service. On their most exhausted days when there is nothing left in the fridge they will be beyond thankful.
3. Comfy Pajamas
Everyone says we will be basically living in our pajamas when the baby arrives. Pajamas and sweats, which will be appropriate, because winters in Kansas can be bitter cold. Honestly, one of the best Christmas gifts in general is a pair of comfortable, good quality, adult pajamas. New parents will be especially thankful for clean and cozy clothes to wear. Add in a robe or socks to make it a whole ensemble. Maybe even an eye mask?
4. Coupon for Babysitting
All parents need a break from time to time. Offer your services as a baby sitter, even if it is only for an hour or two so the new parents can catch a nap. Remember, it’s important to say actual dates and times you are available to help. New parents don’t want to be an inconvenience and they have a lot to think about. Be specific when saying you can help and it will save them a little brain power.
5. A Massage Gift Card
Speaking of babysitting, an excellent gift idea for new parents would be a few hours off to get a massage. Let’s be honest, we all need a good massage every now and then. Especially this year. While writing this post I am deep in the third trimester, and I would absolutely love a spa gift certificate. The only thing that might be a bit tricky about this particular gift is scheduling, but the thought will be appreciated regardless.
6. Simply Your Presence
Give the gift of your presence this Christmas. Honestly, my love language is quality time and all the quarantining has me going a little batty. Don’t overthink your gift giving this year. We’ve all had to make financial changes and accommodations. Being present and available to spend time with the people you love is a budget-friendly gift for any new parent. They might just need someone to be in the room listening to all the ups and downs of parenthood. Or maybe they’d enjoy a phone or Facetime call (you know, social distancing-friendly options). Just be there for them and that simple gift will be more than enough.
