How to Create a Calm Corner for Your Toddler
My daughter has some big emotions because well… she’s my child and she is a toddler. There are days when she is throwing fits and tantrums and I can’t understand what she’s trying to tell me through the chaos. I was inspired by some other wonderful mamas on Instagram to create a quiet corner. So far it seems to be helping! Ronia loves having a cozy place to go to calm down and she calls it her “pink zone.” Learn How to Create a Calm Corner for Your Toddler below.

1. Find a quiet spot.
Originally our calm corner or time-out corner was in Ronia’s bedroom, but it was not only distracting for her, but associated being in trouble with bedtime. You know? I wanted to find a separate space for her to be, and we finally settled on a corner in our dining room space. We don’t use the full dining table often, and I can always move things if we are hosting a party or something. It works out perfectly, because it’s right by a window and long curtains, which my daughter likes to hide behind.
2. Choose a soft surface.
What’s a calm corner without a little bit of coziness? If your calm corner isn’t in a carpeted surface, it might be a good idea to add a pillow or cushion. I found this square shaped floor cushion at Target and knew it would be perfect. (It can also double as seating when we have a lot of people over and someone has to sit on the floor.) I also added a little blanket for her to be extra cozy.
3. Add some wall art.
Etsy has several different calm corner printables, but I settled on these from the shops listed below. The pink kitty was especially for Ronia, because she calls the corner her “pink zone.”

4. Add fidgets/calm toys.
Previously when my daughter would need a time out I wouldn’t allow her to have any toys, because I thought they were distracting. Now I keep a little basket of fidgets and usually a stuffed animal in the calm corner. These toys often help redirect my daughter so that she can process her emotions better. If that makes any sense…
5. Don’t forget the books!
We have a few books about big emotions in the calm corner. (Linked below.) My daughter loves to read, and I have found that she often goes to read books when she needs a minute to herself. She’s like her mama that way.
