How to Create an Outdoor Movie Night this Fall
My husband and I have been trying to be more intentional about date nights. We can’t always leave the house, but there are plenty of fun dates you can create right at home! If you are looking for a fun date night idea or inspiration for family night, read below to discover How to Create an Outdoor Movie Night this Fall.
First… Why bother having a movie night outdoors?
You might be wondering why you should go through the extra trouble to have a movie night outside. The fact that its extra is exactly the reason why you should do it. Taking a little time to make a magical outdoor movie night for your family or spouse or partner is different and fun! There’s something about the fresh air and the stars. Give it a try!
1. Clear a space.
The first step in creating an outdoor movie night this fall is to clear a space. Our yard is just the worst, so I elected to create a movie night on the back porch. This also kept us safe from the elements and closer to the outlet. You could watch the movie with a projector or on your laptop – whatever works best.
2. Make it cozy.
The more blankets and cushions, the better! We have these fluffy chairs from Corduroy that can transform into a queen sized mattress. I stacked two of them together to make it extra cozy, threw on some blankets and pillows and called it good! You could also use sleeping bags or an air mattress.
3. Choose the right movie or show.
We are currently watching the new Rings of Power show based on J. R. R. Tolkiens work, so that was what I chose. However, you could choose a fun fall-themed movie or a classic. Also, you can never go wrong with Harry Potter.
Update: Because we chose to watch Rings of Power, we had to use my laptop. The projector is not able to stream Amazon Prime. Oops!
4. Grab some movie snacks.
Movie snacks are just essential. Popcorn. Candy. Pizza. Use your movie night as an excuse to indulge a little without allowing yourself to feel guilty for doing so. It’s okay to do that every now and then. You could even theme the movie snacks to the movie you chose. For example, if you are watching Harry Potter you could eat Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans and Pumpkin Pasties!
5. Settle in and enjoy.
Once everything is assembled, just enjoy yourself. Consider not cleaning everything up until morning. Stay out late and look at the stars once the movie is over. Just savor the moment and allow yourself to be still.
