How to Effectively Organize Your Kitchen Cabinets
A couple of weeks ago I spontaneously decided to re-organize some of the pantry and my kitchen cabinets. It got me thinking about why I put things where I put them and how I keep my cabinets organized. I thought I would share my thoughts for those of you who struggle knowing where to start when you are organizing. Please read below to discover How to Effectively Organize Your Kitchen Cabinets.
1. Take Everything Out First
Start your cabinet organization fresh by removing all the items from your cabinets. If doing multiple at a time is overwhelming, you can start with one. Take everything out and sort through, putting like with like. Then you can decide if those items should be in that particular cabinet or not. Oh, and give the cabinet a good wipe down before you put things back inside. You might as well, right?
2. Get Rid of Expired Items
It seems obvious to say, but when you are organizing your kitchen cabinets a good first step is to get rid of any expired or stale items. Be brutal with yourself and don’t keep things you might not ever eat. An over-full cabinet can be overwhelming.
3. Think About What You Actually Use
Most people put their pastas and various cooking oils in the cabinets near the stove, but we are just not pasta people. I came to that realization and chose to put smoothie bowl ingredients in the cabinets close to the stove. When you are organizing your kitchen cabinet, be sure to think about what you will actually use and how often you will use it.
4. Consider Decanting
Decanting your snacks, pastas, spices and various other dry good can be an effective way to organize your cabinets. We chose to decant several things in our kitchen and pantry and I cannot tell you how much help it has been. I now can very easily see what we have and order more if necessary. Decanting has made grocery shopping much more simple. You might find it does the same for you!
5. Try New Organizers
Think about what might help you optimize the organization in each cabinet. There are hundreds of kitchen gadgets and organizers out there. You might be able to utilize a “lazy Susan” or step organizer, or perhaps even command hooks or bins. Peruse Pinterest to get some ideas and try to make the items in your cabinets easy to access.
