How to Effectively Organize Your Play Room Closet
We recently finished organizing our playroom closet and I’m so happy with how it turned out. It’s now easy to find what we need and is safe for my toddler to access. Read below to discover How to Effectively Organize Your Play Room Closet.
1. Empty the Space
The first step in any organizational process is to clear the space you intend to organize. Starting with an empty slate gives you a clear head and can help you envision the end result better. Start by emptying and cleaning the playroom closet.
2. Consider Your Needs
What items do you need regular access to? What things would you prefer your toddler not able to touch? For instance, we put the scissors nice and high, as well as paints and art supplies. Toys that are out of rotation, however, have their spot on a lower level that Ronia could easily reach. She doesn’t know how to open doors yet, but she will figure it out at some point. I want to be sure everything is safe for her.
3. Seek Help
I had a vision for the playroom closet that just did not work. The cube shelving was not a good option for us, so I made a call. The team that completed our closets before we moved in was able to come back and give me some much needed shelving. Everything was much easier to organize after that. Sometimes you just need a little help.
(If you are handy enough to do the shelves yourself, then go for it!)
4. Declutter
Before putting items away in your playroom or playroom closet, be sure to declutter. There were several toys in the closet that Ronia has outgrown or were broken. Think about what your child or children actually use. Get rid of trash or items that don’t belong in that space. Decluttering will help you organize your play room more efficiently.
5. Use What You Have
I did not have to buy much in the way of organizational tools for this closet, because I already had several items. The rope baskets came from several other spaces as did the bins on the top shelf. You don’t have to spend a lot to effectively organize your playroom closet. Consider what you already have and go from there.
6. Take it One Step at a Time
I thought we could finish the shelving and organize the closet all in one day. Wishful thinking. I tend to romanticize projects like that. It ended up taking three days between installing the shelves, painting and organizing once the playroom didn’t smell like paint. Good things take time. Don’t get overwhelmed when you are organizing or expect it to be a quick process. Give yourself some grace.
