How to Bring Hygge to Every Room In Your Home, Part 1
My frequent prayer is that God would bring peace and calm to every area of my life, to every room in my home. I’m an anxious person and this current season of pregnancy during a pandemic has me craving comfort in my family and home. Do you crave tranquility? Are you looking for ways to bring coziness and harmony into every aspect of life? That is the very essence of hygge living. Read below to see How to Bring Hygge to Every Room In Your Home (Part 1).

1. Living Room
The living room should be the coziest room in the house apart from your bedroom. It’s where guests will come to sit and chat with you or play board games. It’s the perfect space for family movie night or curling up by the fire with a good book. Bring hygge into your living room by adding throw blankets and a few well-placed pillows. Add a couple quality books to your coffee table and family photos to the wall. Burn a soothing candle or tuck a couple real (or fake) plants into the corner. A hygge living room is not museum clean and pristine. It’s tidy but lived in.
Make your living room feel like home. You’ll know you have achieved the hygge standard of coziness when your guests don’t want to leave. That’s when you’ve really made it.
2. Kitchen
Ah, the kitchen. Your kitchen will feel the most hygge when it’s a mess. I know that sounds like the opposite of peace, but I have found it to be true of my own cooking space. It’s when the room smells like baked goods, the counters sprinkled with flour that it feels the most cozy. Bring hygge to your kitchen by being okay with a little mess. Making food as a family gets a little messy, and that’s okay. Find the balance between perfection and chaos. That’s the sweet spot for hygge.
3. Dining Room
Are dining rooms a thing anymore? I feel like everyone is going to an open floor plan and eating at the table has become a thing of the past. Bring hygge to your dining table by actually eating at the table. That’s right, you heard me. Set the table like your grandmother or Pinterest taught you and enjoy a meal as a family or even by yourself. No phones. No TV. Just delicious food made from scratch and quality time. That’s what makes a dining room cozy.
4. Bedroom
Your bedroom should be a haven for sleep. I know it’s tempting (believe me), but do not spend hours working on your laptop in your bed. Designate that room for rest. Clean the sheets and get some quality pillows. Diffuse a little lavender oil and pull those shades. A hygge bedroom is one that invokes an instant state of relaxation. So keep your room tidy. 5. Guest Room
Ideally, your guest room should be clean and tidy, standing ready for guests at any moment. Let’s face it, life is unpredictable and you may have people staying with you tomorrow. It’s better to be prepared than feel overwhelmed. You can bring hygge to your guest room by adding a basket of toileties to the bed, extra blankets in the closet and perhaps a couple books or magazines to read on the bedside table. Once the room is ready, close the door and let it be. You will thank future you for the preparation. For more ideas on creating a hygge guest room check out How to Make Your Guest Room More Cozy.
6. Bathroom
The bathroom can be a very un-hygge place. It’s hard to keep clean. I mean, you are in there every day getting ready, so it’s easy to neglect the state of your bathroom. I often just close the door and pretend it’s neat and tidy in there. Anybody else?
You can make your bathroom a peaceful place by keeping it organized. Don’t leave your makeup, moisturizers or hair dryer on the counter top when you are finished with them. Take a few extra minutes to put everything back where it belongs. Give the sink a quick wipe-down. An organized bathroom is a peaceful one. Want to take hygge to another level?
