My 4 Favorite Books About Hygge Living
Hygge is a Danish word that encompasses a feeling of coziness, contentment and well-being by enjoying the simple things in life. In case you are wondering what this hygge living lifestyle is really all about, I’ve compiled a list of My 4 Favorite Books About Hygge Living. Each of these books has helped me learn how to slow down and savor this beautiful life God gave me. Life can be overwhelming, but choosing to live a more simple, hyggligt life centered on the Holy Spirit will transform even the most anxious soul. Trust me, it takes time, but choosing to be still is one of the best decisions I have ever made.

1. The Hygge Life: Embracing the Nordic Art of Coziness Through Recipes, Entertaining, Decorating, Simple Rituals, and Family Traditions by Gunnar Karl GÃslason and Jody Eddy
It’s a long title, but this is by far my favorite book about hygge living. If you choose to read only one of My 4 Favorite Books About Hygge Living, choose “The Hygge Life.” Gunnar Karl GÃslason and Jody Eddy creating a soothing masterpiece of photography, instruction, recipes and traditions. My copy of “The Hygge Life” is full of underlines and dog-eared pages, because I simply cannot get enough. Whether you are looking to learn more about hygge living, need a calming read for bedtime, or just want an attractive book for your shelf, this book is the one for you.
2. Making Winter: A Hygge-Inspired Guide to Surviving the Winter Months by Emma Mitchell
“Making Winter” is the ideal coffee table book. This hygge living guide is a collection of recipes, crafts, cocktails, and gift ideas that all center around a hygge theme. Open the book to any page and you will learn something new. Winter is often a dreary time of year, especially in Scandinavian countries with little to no sunlight. If you suffer from the winter blues or simply love to learn new things, “Making Winter” is the book for you.
3. American Cozy: Hygge-Inspired Ways to Create Comfort & Happiness by Stephanie Pederson
“American Cozy” has a slightly different take on hygge living that I appreciated. Stephanie Pederson combines her American upbringing with her Danish roots for a delicious spin on the comfort. This book is split into digestible sections and scattered with cleaning tips and recipes. One of my favorite quotes from Pederson’s book sums up the premise in two sentences:
“In today’s ‘go get ’em’ world, the word comfort is seen by some as a synonym for lazy, low-energy, fearful of change, or idle-someone who is more concerned with feeling good than being productive. In the world I grew up in, however, comfort meant none of these things.”
4. Scandi Christmas: over 45 projects and quick ideas for beautiful decorations & gifts by Christiane Bellstedt Myers
“Scandi Christmas” is not a how-to guide on hygge living, but what’s more hygge than Christmas? Honestly, it’s the best time of year. I’m one of those people who decorate before Thanksgiving. With over 45 project ideas, “Scandi Christmas” is the perfect book for the holidays. Snag this one in the summer to get yourself extra prepared for the coming winter festivities. Lay it on the coffee table or wow your friends with your new DIY skills. Merry (way early) Christmas!
