1. Fold Clothing to Save Space
Folding clothing as pictured above can help not only organizationally, but visually. Make it easy for you and anyone else to see all those cute clothes! It will also save you space as you receive more clothing as gifts during your baby shower. I honestly have hardly bought our baby girl a thing clothing wise and look how full her dresser drawers are getting! Save yourself space and time in the future by folding the baby clothes strategically.
2. Add Dividers in the Dresser Drawers
Curious how we were able to section off her dresser drawers? I found these drawer organizers from Ikea on Amazon. They are ideal for organization, and I actually purchased more for my own dresser. The organizers come flat. You just zip them up and are good to go! Love this design and product for organizing.
3. Label Each Section
When my husband saw that I had labeled the drawers he literally turned to thank me. If you are someone who has a naturally organized brain, it’s important to remember not everyone thinks that way. Labeling the drawers can help your family and friends in the future. They might want to help you with the laundry, but aren’t sure where things go. It will also help remind you where to put things when you are tired or having a mommy-brain sort of day.
4. Utilize the Back of the Closet Door
Our nursery is not that big, nor is our home. I wanted to be sure to use every ounce of space well. This door organizer from the Container Store is absolutely perfect to maximize your closet space. I will say it was slightly tricky to put on the door, but otherwise worth the time and money. I can’t get over how functional it is. You can also customize the organizer to fit whatever you need, which is a bonus.
5. Add Square Shelving to Divide Closet
Fun fact, little baby clothes don’t take up as much space as adult clothing. To compartmentalize the space in our nursery closet I bought square shelving and placed in the middle of each shelf. That way I could store books or bedding or toys easier. This strategy also granted me the opportunity to divide the clothing by size.
6. Label Clothing by Month
Speaking of dividing the clothing by size, remember to label the baby clothes by months. You can use a cute tag system like the one pictured above, or anything that makes you comfortable. I’m honestly not sure how quickly we will work our way through each size, so I went ahead and washed and hung up to 9 months. As she outgrows each section I can replace and move clothes around. Again, I love to organize. Can you tell?
7. Store What You Aren’t Using
Like I mentioned previously, this little girl is definitely spoiled on the clothes front. We have been given plenty of girl clothing for up to 2T. Yup. Obviously I don’t need to hang 2T clothing in the closet, so we bought bins and are storing any extra gifts in the garage. Remember to wash the clothing or gift items first to save you time later. It’s all about maximizing your time with that little nugget once they are in your arms.
8. Wash All the Baby Clothing
Take the time to wash all your baby clothing in safe laundry detergent. Save future you the time and effort. As tired as I am right now in the third trimester, I know it will be nothing compared to mom life fatigue. I decided to do future me a favor and wash all the laundry, bedding, and swaddles so it’s ready for baby when she needs it. It’s also important, because baby skin is so sensitive. Also, your nursery will smell like clean laundry and could there be anything better?
9. Make Board Books Visable
If you’ve ever baby sat a small child you know that board books are the way to go. It makes me so sad to see a book destroyed. Sure, I know kids don’t understand the privilege it is to have a book, but it still hurts my heart. To avoid any harm coming to some of my children’s book collection, I separated the board books and shelved them out in the open. This is not only a good way to display the books you have to read, but it also adds a pop of color.
