Scripture We Chose to Write on Our New Home
When my husband and I decided to build a new home this year, I wanted to be sure we kept God at the forefront of the entire process. The idea of building a home from the ground up was exciting, but overwhelming. We both wanted to invite God into our home from the very beginning. Like Moses says in Exodus 33, “If your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here.” Without the presence of God in our home, it would be a hollow shell. Below is a list of Scripture We Chose to Write on Our New Home.
If you are looking to build a home in the future, I highly recommend making your own list of verses to write on the bones of your home. My list below is broken down by room and I hope will be a help to you. All scriptures are from the ESV.
Living Room
Our living room will be the center of community, a place where everyone can come together in fellowship for birthdays and Bible study. The idea that it would be a space for people to gather influenced our the scripture we chose for this room.
- Psalm 115:1 – “Not to us, Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.“
- 2 Chronicles 7:15-16 – “Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place. I have chosen and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.“
- Hebrews 10:24-25 – “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.“
Kitchen
Though our kitchen will be a place to cook and enjoy good food, we want to always remember where true fulfillment comes from. Jesus is the bread of life and we will never be satisfied apart from our Father in Heaven. The scripture we chose for the kitchen reflects that.
- John 6:35 – “Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”
- Psalm 78:24 – “and he rained down on them manna to eat and gave them the grain of heaven.“
- 1 Corinthians 10:31 – “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.“
Office
My husband now works from home, which is a big blessing. He works in a competitive and intense industry, so I wanted his office to be especially saturated in the Word of God.
- Colossians 3:23-24 – “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.“
- John 15:5 – “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.“
- Ephesians 2:10 – “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.“
- Matthew 5:16 – “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.“
- Proverbs 16:3 – “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.“
Master Bedroom & Bath
My prayer for our master bedroom and bath is that they would be a place of true rest and refreshment; a haven even on the most difficult days; a place to spend time with the Lord in the quiet of the morning.
- Isaiah 32:18 – “My people will abide in a peaceful habitation in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.“
- Psalm 51:7 – “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.“
- James 4:8 – “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.“

Various Places
These next several scriptures are scattered across the rest of our home in the guest room, nursery, dining room and everywhere in between. I didn’t have a good category to add them into so the final scripture we chose will be lumped together for the sake of this blog post.
- Joshua 24:15 – “...But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.“
- Luke 10:5-6 – “Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’ And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him. But if not, it will return to you.”
- Psalm 127:1 – “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.“

4. Isaiah 28:16 – “therefore thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion, a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation: ‘Whoever believes will not be in haste.’
5. Psalm 91: 1-2 – “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
6. Mark 15:19 – “And they were striking his head with a reed and spitting on him and kneeling down in homage to him.”
7. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 – “But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.”
My prayer for our new home is that it would be a haven; a place of peace and love. More than anything I want our home to be a place for the Spirit of God to dwell and that His presence would be tangible to all who enter. Writing scripture on the studs and foundation of our home was our first step. Thank you for reading my list of Scripture We Chose to Write on Our New Home.
