Scriptures for Weary Winter Months
I don’t know about you, but winter break wore me out. It’s been bitter cold and snowy. School was cancelled and people have been sick. Being cooped up inside with a three year old for days on end can make you go a little stir crazy, so I decided to look up some scriptures to repeat to myself on the most frustrating days. Below are five Scriptures for Weary Winter Months.
1. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest… for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls…” – Matthew 11:28-30
The obvious first choice for a list of Scriptures for Weary Winter Months was Matthew 11:28-30. We have a loving Father in Heaven whom we can go to whenever we feel exhausted physically, mentally or emotionally. That truth brings me comfort.
2. “The Lord replied, ‘My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.'” – Exodus 33:14
Even on those days when we can’t seem to get five minutes of silence, it’s important to remember that God is with us always. Reach out to him in prayer when you are washing dishes, folding laundry, or baking cookies. Allow Him to help you find soul rest in spite of your surroundings.
3. “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” – Galatians 6:9
Not gonna lie, I was growing pretty weary of doing good. Being a stay at home mom can be a bit monotonous. The same laundry, dishes, toys, tantrums, books… However, Galatians 6:9 encourages me to look at the bigger picture.
4. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28
Much like Galatians 6:9, Romans 8:28 reminds us that God has a much bigger plan than we realize. I was disheartened with the recent weather, being stuck home and unable to even walk around a grocery store to clear my head. But God knew what He was doing. He is in control, and that’s far better than me being in control. I’ve learned that the hard way.
5. “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9
The final verse in my list is one of my favorites in all of scripture. God’s power is made perfect in my weakness. Very often I am weak. I lose my temper, get impatient or say the wrong thing. But even when I am weak, He is strong. Like Paul, I can rejoice in my weakness, knowing He more than makes up for what I lack.
