7 Small Businesses You Should Support
Shopping local is important for any small community. I grew up in a small creative community in the middle of Kansas, so I am a big advocate for buying gifts locally and handmade. Although there are dozens of organizations I could add to the list, for the sake of this post I narrowed it down to Seven Small Businesses You Should Support. Keep in mind during this difficult time that we must continue to support and be kind to one another.
As a disclosure, I do not have an affiliation with any of the businesses of this list. I simply love the people and the products and wanted to share! Do you own a small business I should know about or that could be added to a future blog post? Be sure to send me an email or message on Instagram and I will add your name to the list.
1. Shiloh Collection
Shiloh Collection was born out of a “desire to bring hope to a weary world through beautiful collections” and they do just that! The owners, Mik and Tay do nothing but shine light and give encouragement. Be sure to follow them on Instagram @shilohcollect.
You may have seen me on Instagram sporting the best sweater of all time, pictured above. I have a few, and for good reason. If you looking for the absolute comfiest sweatshirt of all time look no further. Shiloh Collection also has swaddles, bump cards, magnets, scripture cards, tattoos and journals. Perfect for gifts and stocking stuffers. Check out their website today by clicking here.
2. Florence Adams
A family-owned business in St. Marys, Kansas, this boutique store has everything from apparel to housewares. They also have modest, good quality, stylish clothing, which for me is so difficult to find. I’ve purchased several dresses from Florence Adams and have been very impressed with the quality.
If you are looking for housewarming gifts, baby gifts, or a cute outfit just for you, Florence Adams is worth the look. They have an excellent selection of butcher block tables as well. Basically, if you want it they got it.
Keep in mind the hours for this business may vary.
3. Allie Kay Boutique
Allie is talent. That’s all there is to it. She is sweet as pie and her jewelry is absolutely gorgeous. If you are looking for a special gift for Christmas or a treat for yourself, I highly recommend you take a look at her jewelry and pottery collection. They make excellent gifts for others or even for yourself.
I met Allie at a real estate event. We each had a booth and were selling items from our small businesses. (In case you didn’t know I used to sell custom royal icing cookies.) Anyway, I had the privilege of talking with her about her business and watching her work. She’s the real deal guys, and she is using her unique gifts to bless others.
4. The Good Merchant
Let me start by saying most all the small businesses in Lindsborg is worthy of this list, but I could only pick a couple for the sake of this post. If you have spare time, I highly recommend taking a walk down main street in my home town to see all the hidden gems. Now, as for the Good Merchant, I could get lost in all the beautiful nooks and crannies of this store. The Good Merchant is a family owned store brimming with everything from clothing to home decor.
Whatever you are looking for, The Good Merchant has it. It’s also family owned and run, which is so incredibly special. As their website says, “The Good Merchant is not only a store but a destination for those who want to be inspired!” I could not agree more.
5. Small World Gallery
The Small World Gallery is another family owned store. Jim and Kathy Richardson own and operate the Small World Gallery in Lindsborg, KS. Jim is a photographer for National Geographic, and his breathtaking work is on display in the Gallery. There is also breathtaking handmade jewelry by Kathy available in store and online, as well as an expertly curated children’s book collection. Everything I love in one space, really.
The Richardson’s shop carries on the arts tradition of Lindsborg, and is a must-see when driving through the area. Visiting their store feels like visiting family.
6. The Sweet Granada
The Sweet Granada is home to the best chocolate in all the world. Based in Emporia, KS this delicious small business is one of my favorite places to stop. The people are kind and thoughtful. I was even given a behind the scenes tour after expressing my deep appreciation for all things chocolate. If you love sweets, you will love Granada chocolate. I cannot emphasize this enough, their products are exquisite.
7. Kari’s Custom Piñatas
Kari and I met in kindergarten when we accidentally smacked heads on the playground. True story. Now my childhood bestie is using her incredible talents to make piñatas for all occasions. It has been a joy to watch her use her gifts to bring joy to so many. I mean, what’s a party without a piñata filled with candy? Follow her Facebook page to see all her beautiful creations!
