Top 10 Helpful Tips as a Toddler Mom
Being a toddler mom is the hardest and most rewarding experience of my life. I am by no means an expert mom, but in the past couple years I have learned my fair share of lessons. Today seemed like a good day to share my Top 10 Helpful Tips as a Toddler Mom. If you have more tips and tricks to share, be sure to message me on Instagram or send me an email.
1. Double Layer Bed Sheets
Perhaps the number one tip I can offer a fellow toddler mom is to double layer the bed sheets. Basically it should be waterproof cover, sheet, another cover and a sheet on top. Why? Accidents happen. Sometimes your kiddo will be sick in the middle of the night. It’s so much easier to clean up the bed when all you need to do is remove the top sheet and waterproof cover!
2. Wake up Earlier
Our daughter has never been the best of sleepers. It can be difficult for me to sacrifice a little sleep and rise earlier than my family. It’s difficult, but worth it. Having a few minutes or even an hour to myself in the morning is a game changer. My mood can affect the rest of the household, so it’s vital that I get my heart and mind ready for the day.
3. Go Outside Daily
Occasionally I feel like a plant. When I’m feeling worn out and blah, I usually just need a big glass of water and some sun. Studies show that spending time outdoors can improve your sleep, reduce depression, improve your energy and much more. Try to go outside every day.
4. Pack Extra Clothes
Accidents happen. No matter how short your outing may be, I encourage you to pack extra clothes. If you are potty training, consider packing a couple of outfits. You just never know.
5. Pray Continuously
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says: “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” Praying throughout the day is something that gives me strength and helps to recenter me. My daughter is learning to regulate her emotions, communicate, be kind, share and respect others, etc. And I’m the one to teach her! I could not do that on my own.
6. Portable Potty in the Car
7. Always Pack Snacks
You can never have enough snacks. I never leave the home without several options. It also saves us money buying snacks when we are out and about.
8. Less is More
There really is something to Montessori play. My daughter can be perfectly content playing with dirt and rocks in the front yard. She doesn’t need too much to stay entertained. Remember, less is more. Allow your kiddos to use their imagination. It’s a beautiful thing to witness.
9. Allow for Independent Play
Speaking of playtime, one of the best things I could have done with my daughter was to encourage independent play. Ronia is an only child, so it’s extra important she knows how to entertain herself now and then. Studies show that independent play build confidence, creativity, and problem-solving skills. It might take some time and patience to encourage that independence, but it will be worth it for you and your toddler.
10. Ask for Help
The last of my Top 10 Helpful Tips as a Toddler Mom is the one I am still working on myself. Asking for help isn’t easy, but we were never meant to do everything alone. If you are struggling in any way, please ask for help. Talk to other moms, reach out to friends and family or to your local church. Just ask. And don’t stop asking all together if you have a bad experience the first time. The right people, your people, will understand and they will step up.
