What We Used to Plant a Garden This Year
One of my husband’s greatest ambitions is for us to grow vegetables and fruit in our own garden. I decided to finally give it a shot this year, even though I’ve not been known to have the greenest thumb. Below is my list of What We Used to Plant a Garden This Year as beginners. Happy Gardening!

1. Raised Garden Beds
I was inspired by Allison Bickerstaff on YouTube to buy these raised garden beds from Amazon. They are easier to tend, because you don’t have to bend over. The raised beds are also harder for pests to infiltrate, relatively easy to move if you want to change their location and are aesthetically pleasing!
2. Plant-Based Sealer
The Xtreme Garden Box sealer is non-toxic, FDA food contact safe, and seals all wood types from water damage. I’ve heard of other people putting three layers on the inside of their garden beds, but I just did one layer all around. It went on well with a large paint brush and didn’t smell overwhelmingly strong. We let them dry for a few days before filling them with soil. Overall I was pleased and would recommend this sealer.
3. Raised Bed Gardening for Beginners
Like I said perviously, we are gardening beginners. I’ve only successfully grown a couple of things in my lifetime, so I need all the help I can get. The Raised Bed Gardening for Beginners book was very helpful in explaining how we should get started with our garden.
4. Seed Box
I wanted a dry and secure place to store any extra seeds, so I found a cute little seed box on Amazon. It came with dividers, envelopes and plant labels as well.
5. Hay, Soil, Compost
I layered our raised beds with hay, compost and soil mixed with mulch. I know there are many different ways you can fill your garden beds, but these were the options available to us at the time that made the most sense.
6. Plants and Seeds
Last, but certainly not least on my list of What We Used to Plant a Garden This Year are the plants and seeds. We bought pepper, tomato and lettuce seedlings from a couple nearby plant stores. However, in the last garden bed we chose to plant wildflowers from seed. They are already growing so well. I’m excited to see how everything will turn out.
